Our Pilates studio equipment

We’re a fully equipped dedicated Pilates Studio that gives us almost unending possibilities for finding and focusing movement in the smallest of muscles, which makes you feel taller, stronger, and more centered. Here’s an introduction to some of the equipment we use on the daily.

REFORMER

Working your body in a totally unique way where you'll push and pull against spring tension which can both support and challenge movements. There are literally hundreds of variations of movement from lying down through to standing on the reformer. Using the reformer you can expect to feel stronger and more flexible and to feel energised. Clients always tell us they feel 2 inches taller after a session on the reformer and sometimes they look it too!

LADDER BARREL

The ladder barrel is a great piece of equipment to counterbalance the effects of modern working life slumping over computers and phones. Its rounded shape means that it gives us that all-important feedback as to ‘how’ to arch our back and it gives us a shape in which we can mold ourselves around.

THE WUNDA CHAIR

Even though exercises on the chair are generally more challenging than the ones performed lying on a reformer, certain design features mean that this doesn’t always have to be the case. The chair’s handle design, for example, allows the chair to be made more supportive for beginners or people with injuries. Like all of the apparatus it is incredibly versatile so each movement can be regressed or progressed depending on the person!

BALLS - PILATES, OVER, & SWISS

We use a variety of different balls in both classes and one-to-ones. Smaller ones like the overball (pictured) can be great for release work where muscle or connective tissue might be restricting your movement and the larger ones are brilliant for challenging both balance and stability.

FOAM ROLLER

Like the small balls we use the foam rollers for both release work and to challenge balance and stability. Lying on a foam roller and for example, trying to lift the opposite arm and leg is also a great way of ironing out any muscular imbalances as it encourages you to develop new movement patterns.

PILATES RING

AKA MAGIC OR FITNESS CIRCLE

The magic circle in Pilates is a circular resistance prop that we use in classes and one-to-one sessions. It’s designed to provide a variable amount of resistance depending on how hard it is being squeezed. It provides gentle to moderate resistance in an exercise and is mindfully integrated into the body to support or challenge you during exercises. This means it is usually used under gentle tension to activate certain muscles.
